ANDOVER — The Phillips Academy softball team made it three straight Big East Invitational Tournament championships, dominating the field with a 3-0 run over the weekend.
Saturday, the Big Blue took out Worcester Academy 9-3, with Methuen’s Ravenne Nasser pitching the seven-hit, complete-game win.
Windham’s Kayla Maloney showed off her versatility by playing that one at second base. The senior went 3 for 4 on the day with a homer, driving in five of the Phillips runs.
Andover’s Nikki Pelletier had three hits and drove in three. Caitlin Clancy, also of Andover, added a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Yesterday, Maloney moved back to the mound as the Big Blue went for the kill.
In a 2-1 win over BB&N, Maloney needed her best and delivered with a no-hitter, striking out 13. Maloney had a pair of hits and drove in a run in that one as three Big Blue errors helped make things a bit dicey in the seventh before she slammed the door shut.
In the title game, Maloney allowed four hits and struck 11 as the Big Blue KO’d Tabor, 4-1.
Clancy paced the offense with two hits and an RBI. Maloney, Nasser and captain Abby Chung all had a hit and drove in a run. Haverhill’s Kasey Hartung, who scored the winning run, was immense defensively at third base.
Maloney, Pelletier and Clancy, all seniors, were named to the all-tourney team. Phillips moves to 11-0 on the year.
