ROCHE ON PLAY-BY-PLAY
Congrats to Andover’s Dan Roche. The Channel 4 sports reporter/anchor has been named play-by-play man for the Patriots preseason television production team.
Roche and ex-Pats tight end Christian Fauria will replace the team of Don Criqui and Randy Cross.
Three-time Pats Super Bowl champion Matt Chatham will be on the sidelines, along with Steve Burton offering insight. Patriots Football Weekly “personalities” Andy Hart and Paul Perillo will add insight during the games and add a mix of social media into the telecasts.
The new crew debuts on August 9 at Philadelphia.
TOURNEY ACTION HEATS UP AT GARRISON
Garrison Golf Center in Haverhill hosted its second of four Par-3 Junior Tournaments recently.
Salem’s Evan Desjardin won the Under-10 division, holding off Andover’s Will Norris, age 6, with a 38. Derry’s Rob Defeo was third.
In the 11-13 division, Casey Ouellette of Texas edged North Andover’s Dan McMillan, who scored a 34. Ari Boniface took the girls divison with a 41.
Tourney action continues in August. The final two Garrison events of the summer will be Tuesday, August 6, and Thursday, August 15, each starting at 11 a.m. The $20 entry fee includes golf, use of the practice range, lunch and prizes. Tournaments are limited to the first 36 participants.

SOME EXPLAINING TO DO ON THE GRIDIRON
I remain a huge fan of the new high school football system with playoffs starting before Thanksgiving. Still, there is some explaining to do by the schedule makers. Central Catholic plays Andover in September and on Thanksgiving, but the Raiders don’t play Methuen? You’re talking Central and Methuen here. By the way, the Rangers, who play Dracut twice, don’t play Andover either. As I said when I endorsed the change earlier, the schedule makers had to spend extra time with rivalries.
