---- — Home-cooking suited the Lowell Spinners just fine last night. Opening at six-game homestand at LeLacheur Park, the Spinners overcame four errors to topple the Auburn Doubledays, 6-4, in New York/Penn League action last night.
Kevin Mager had three hits and drove in three runs for Lowell.
Joe Gunkel earned his second save with another scoreless inning, having thrown 8.2 scoreless since joining the team. He escaped a jam with the tying runs on base in the ninth.
The two teams meet again tonight in Lowell when reigning New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week Jamie Callahan (2-1, 4.55) gets the ball for a 7:05 first pitch.
FISHER CATS DROP 7TH STRAIGHT
Kenny Wilson, who had missed the last three months with a leg injury, made up for lost time with a single and a homer but it wasn’t enough as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell to the Bowie Baysox, 9-7.
The defeat was the seventh in a row for the Fisher Cats, who play at Bowie again tonight, looking to snap the skid and improve on their 52-55 season mark.
New Hampshire again returns home on Tuesday, August 6, opening a six-game homestand.
