Miracle win for Salem hockey

Cody Soucy scored as time expired to force OT. Then Jake Pappalardo scored 1:30 into OT to give Salem, which trailed 2-0 after 2, a pulsating 3-2 win over Hanover.

“We pulled the goalie and Cody just buried it,” said coach Mark McGinn.

Concord-Carlisle scored with 1.9 seconds left to beat Haverhill, 2-1. Josh Goldstein scored for the Hillies and Mike Gleason (38 saves) was marvelous in net.

Hannah Kimball led Timberlane by winning the 1,000 meters in 3:09.2 in an 11-team meet. Meghan Tarr (600) and Kate Estep (1,500) took thirds and helped the Owls to a third in the 4x400.

In boys action, Gunnar Ericsson rolled to wins in the 55 hurdles in 8.1 and 300 meters in 38.1

Chris Poggi ran a school record 1:22.82 to win the 600 and John Davis (shot put 42-5) and Mark Franklin (high jump tie 5-10) were also victorious as Pinkerton swept a 15-team meet.

Jessica Brito led the Notre Dame of Lawrence girls with 15 points in a 44-30 win over Bradford Christian.

Methuen senior Mike O’Donnell set a new school indoor record in the 800 meters yesterday at an open meet at Boston yesterday, recording a sizzling 1:55.25, four seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher. That ties him for eighth best all-time in the region (indoor or outdoors) and breaks the Methuen indoor record by more than two seconds, previously held by Erik Colon. The 36-year-old school outdoor mark is Mike Jankowski’s 1:55.0.

Lionel Figueroa Jr., a 6-foot freshman from Lawrence, pumped in 46 points including an eye-popping 10 3-pointers as Notre Dame of Lawrence whipped upstart Bradford Christian 96-28.

“He just doesn’t miss. He was 17 of 20 and 10 of 13 on threes,” said coach Zach Lebowitz.

Figueroa is averaging 30.3 points for Notre Dame, which improved to 1-2.

Jessie Livingston placed in four events and was the all-around winner with a score of 36.4 as Andover clipped Methuen.

Amanda Conway netted her third straight hat trick as the Methuen-Tewksbury girls hockey team tied Newton South 3-3. Taylor Lirakin had 25 saves and also assisted on one of the goals.
