Dominating Hoehn sparks Knights to crown at Marshfield

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — MARSHFIELD — Although it was a fine all-around effort by the North Andover wrestling team yesterday at the Marshfield Tournament, it was hard not to single out the performance of sophomore 152-pounder Fritz Hoehn.

Hoehn pinned his way through the tournament and, in the finals put Eric Travers of Cumberland, R.I., on his back. Travers was sixth in New England last year and his decisive defeat helped earn Hoehn the Outstanding Wrestler award, highlighting the Knights’ third straight tournament crown at Marshfield,

North Andover finished the 34-team tourney with 256 points, far ahead of runner-up Plymouth South (217).

Joining Hoehn on the top of the podium was Zane Melillo at 132 pounds, Stephen Cincotta at 170 and Ryan Neals at 182. Cincotta, who was unseeded, was a 6-1 victor in the finals and was impressive throughout while Neals remained undefeated on the year.

Finishing second was 160-pounder Brad Drover. He lost a 3-1 decision to defending 170-pound champion and New England runner-up Will Henson of Barnstable.

Nick Villalba had a strong tournament to place third at 126 and the Knights had 10 placers overall.
