Mello magic

Senior forward Michaela Mello scored 11 points and added seven rebounds while Mackenzie Mello collected 13 rebounds and made five steals to lead North Andover girls basketball 64-32 over Lowell.

Morgan Lumb added 14 points, seven assists and four steals. The Knights improved to 8-1.

DeBaldo leads upset

Becca DeBaldo scored 17 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as Pelham girls basketball knocked off previously-undefeated Goffstown 53-48. Jordan Parece added 13 points, 10 assists and outstanding defense for the winners.

Caveney clutch

Devon Caveney sunk three of her six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Andover finished the game on a 16-2 run to defeat Methuen 54-43 in girls hoops. Caveney finished with 24 points, Abby Katz added 12 rebounds and Olivia Biles knocked down four 3-pointers for the winners.

Georgetown’s comeback failed

Christian Gesualdi helped Georgetown boys basketball battle back from 10 points down at halftime to tie the game 31-31. But the Royals could not pull ahead and lost 46-45.

Gesualdi poured in 17 points but missed a final shot from just inside the 3-point line with time expiring.

Defensive dominance

Tyler Verrette led an Andover defense that allowed just three points in the second and third quarter combined and Jack Konevich knocked down four 3-pointers on the way to 12 points as the Golden Warriors downed Methuen 65-36 in boys basketball action.

Wildcats rally back

Andrea Terranova scored a team-high 16 points as Whittier girls basketball turned a six-point deficit after three quarters into a 53-47 victory over Greater Lowell.

Reynoso’s double-double not enough

Oscar Reynoso’s 17 points and 11 rebounds weren’t enough as Greater Lawrence boys basketball lost 50-49 to Lynn Tech in double overtime.

A desperation shot with 3 seconds left didn’t reach the rim.
