Off a set play, Dakotah Vondrasek broke free for a layup with 8.9 left in the game, then pressured the ball and forced a turnover on the inbounds pass to close out a 43-42 Timberlane victory over Dover in girls basketball. Shawna Weidman finished with 14 rebounds and seven blocks for the winners.
King of D-1
Jaime King scored 18 points — all in the first half — to lead Londonderry girls basketball 65-48 over Nashua North, which entered the contest undefeated in Division 1.
Dorandi stole the ball!
With 6.6 seconds left and Methuen girls basketball leading by one point, North Andover had possession with the chance to take the lead when Kelly Dorandi stole the ball to clinch the Rangers’ 47-46 victory. Methuen was led by Amanda Petrow with 14 points while the Scarlet Knights, without injured star Morgan Lumb, were paced by Michaela Mello (12 points).
Pat Bjork’s basket on a nifty move in the post with 2 seconds remaining tied Georgetown’s game against Newburyport at 58-58.
Christian Gesualdi then banked a layup to put the Royals ahead for good in the final 10 seconds of overtime.
The 3-9 Royals posted a 66-65 upset win over Newburyport (8-4) in boys basketball action
Reynoso ices win
Oscar Reynoso knocked down a pair of free throws with 7 seconds left on the clock to put Greater Lawrence up by four points, making a last-second 3-pointer meaningless as the Reggies held on to beat Shawsheen 57-56 in boys basketball.
Double the fun
Cesar De Pena (13 points, 14 rebounds) and L.J. Figueroa (26 points, 10 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in Notre Dame’s 73-30 win over Fellowship in boys basketball action.
Figueroa, a freshman, poured in seven 3-pointers.
On cloud 9
Eric Zhao won the 200 freestyle (2:07.04) and 100 freestyle (49.50) and swam on the winning 200 freestyle relay as Andover improved to 9-0 with a 95-89.
Marisa Agganis drove to the hoop for the win with time expiring but did not convert her shot and a foul was not called as Georgetown girls basketball lost 46-45 to Newburyport.
Still, Agganis had quite a night with 15 points and eight rebounds.
