Andover romps
Andover’s boys gymnastic team routed Nashua South and Nashua North 150.2-107.9-105.5, placing in the top three in every event. Brian Manning (42.5) and Joseph Aronov (38.6) went one-two in the all-around for the Warriors (5-1).
Welch, Crowell shine
Roger Williams College freshman David Welch of Salem, N.H., was named to the all-tournament team and former Pinkerton Academy standout and teammate Collin Crowell won all of his matches at the New England Wrestling Association Championship Sunday.
Springfield, coached by former Timberlane star Jay Holder, posted a thrilling 19-18 win over top-seed Wesleyan in the final to win the team title. Roger Williams finished fifth.
Collins honored
Merrimack College junior forward Mike Collins has been named Hockey East Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Jon Swavely of Maine. Collins led the Warriors on Friday night to the 3-2 victory over No. 4 UNH with two goals and an assist for his fifth three-point game of the season. The junior has nine points in his last five conference games and has racked up a team-high 25 points in 16 conference matchups. His 1.56 points per game in conference play is tops in Hockey East. Merrimack (10-10-5, 8-6-2 HEA) will return home Friday to take on the UMass Lowell RiverHawks at 7 p.m.
Kobelski takes second
Andover’s Cassandra Kobelski took second in the shot put Sunday at the MSTCA Elite Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center with a throw of 38-1. Andover also took thirds in both the boys 4x200 relay (1:34.0) and the girls 4x800 relay (9:44.42).
