---- — Whittier Tech continued its remarkable run in 2013 by sweeping Marlboro, Sandwich and Billerica to improve to 15-6-1. The Wildcats have now won 13 meets in a row and haven’t lost since December. They’ll try to knock off Shawsheen at home Wednesday for the Commionwealth Conference regular season title.

Xavier Boisvert (132) and Shahib Blount (170) were both 3-0 and Jeremy Martinez (182) was 2-0.

“I am very proud of our team,” said Whittier coach Harry Takesian. “Last year, we finished dead last in the league and it was a horrible feeling. The team has worked hard this year and here we are 12 months later competing for the league title.”

Windham doubles pleasure

It was a big day for Windham yesterday. The varsity defeated Division 1 teams Manchester Central (51-29) and Exeter (48-30) to improve to 15-1 and the B team finished third at the Franklin Tournament, placing in eight weight classes. Heavyweight David Crichron had two pins and Chris Ferri had a big 5-3 decision at 182 over Exeter’s talented Jeff King.

At the Franklin Tournament, Corey Alberico was runner-up at 195.

St. John’s wins D1 duals

St. John’s Prep captured the Division 1 dual-meet tournament at Chelmsford by routing Braintree 67-12 and then whipping Shawsheen Tech 36-25. North Andover’s Ben DiNatale (152) and Ian Butterbrodt (220) and Haverhill heavyweight Corey Jean-Jacques won both of their matches. Butterbrodt remained undefeated on the year and St. John’s improved to a staggering 37-3.

Freshman spark Haverhill

It was a good day for freshmen at Haverhill, which swept a quad-meet with Lexington, Everett and Malden Catholic. At 120, Colby Prescott won his first varsity match and Jake Prescott (no relation) was 2-0 while Danny McDonald was 2-0 with two pins at 160. Sophomore Sammie Al-Ziab was 3-0, one of his wins coming at heavyweight.

Phillips Academy had its best day of the season, winning the 14-team Northern Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at the Hyde School in Woodstock, Connecticut. Four Phillips wrestlers won individual titles — sophomore Andreas Shiekh (106), junior standout Christian Vallis (120), junior James Palmer (170) and sophomore Henry Curtis (195). Vallis and Shiekh each had four pins.

Pentucket, North Reading roll

Methuen improved to 22-4 by sweeping Peabody, Chicopee and Westford. Among the highlights, heavyweight George Deleon was 3-0 and Dan Aziz was 2-0 at 152.

Timberlane improved to 22-2 with an easy quad sweep of Winnacunnet, Hollis-Brookline and Nashua South. Tyler Fitzpatrick, Adam Corey, Ryan Peters, Josh Burnham and Harry Denoncourt all had three pins on the day. Also at the meet, Pinkerton routed Hollis-Brookline and Winnacunnet to improve to 17-1. Nine Astros won both of their matches.

Sanborn’s Jonathon Scheidegger won his fifth straight tournament, capturing the 152-pound class at the 20-team Jericho (Vt.) Invitational. Teammate Tristan Leak was the runner-up at 138.
