Guidi, Matatall starring for Rivier.

Junior guard A.J. Guidi of Derry is putting up all-star numbers (13.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.0 3-pointers a game) for 13-6 Rivier. The former Pinkerton 1,000-point scorer began her career at UMass Lowell.

Freshman guard Anjulisa Rhodes of Lawrence (1.0 points), sophomore forward Danielle Martin of Haverhill/Whittier Tech (2.4 points, 2.3 rebounds) and freshman forward Samantha LaRosa of Salem (1.6 points, 1.1 rebounds) are also seeing time. The Raiders are coached by Derry’s Paul Williams, a teacher at East Derry Elementary School.

Junior Terry Matatall of Danville, a 6-7 junior middle hitter for Rivier, was named Greater Northeast Conference Player of the Week. He had a .420 hitting percentage with 2.17 kills/set in three matches.

MASCAC’S Finest

The following local athletes made the MASCAC Fall All-Academic team:

Bridgewater State freshman Danielle Poto of North Andover, cross country; Framingham State sophomore Hannah Wilkins of Merrimac, field hockey; Framingham State senior Lauren Bova of North Andover, soccer; Mass. Maritime senior Josh Lamm of North Andover, crew; and Mass. Maritime junior Kelsie Brien of Methuen, cross country.

Also Salem State senior Angelica Gonzalez of Lawrence and Greater Lawrence Tech, volleyball; Salem State senior Courtney Lynch of North Andover, field hockey; Westfield State freshman Gregory Brown of Andover, football; and Westfield State junior Kelsey Garvey of Haverhill, cross country.

RPI report

Senior guard Erik Hatton of Atkinson is averaging 5.1 points at RPI while sophomore guard Michelle Reid of Derry is averaging 3.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 steals for the women’s team.

Junior Zac Borrelli of Methuen, freshman Tyler Yeastedt of Merrimac and freshman Matt Fenlon of Haverhill are all Central Catholic grads on the RPI track team. They are joined by freshman Steven Hammer of Pelham.

Borrelli was named the Liberty League Field Performer of the Week after he won the shot put (44-10) and placed third in the weight throw (47-0) at the Bowdoin quad-meet. Fenlon was on the second-place 4x200 team at the Dartmouth Classic.

Newbury news

Sophomore guard Milciades Carrasco of Haverhill and Whittier Tech is averaging 4.9 points in 12.1 minutes a game for the Newbury men’s basketball team.

Salem duo

Joe Gallant, a 6-4 sophomore forward from Salem, is starting for Nichols. He’s averaging 4.0 points and 4.7 rebounds for the 12-9 Bison. Another Salemite, Alexa Smith, is a defenseman on the women’s hockey team.

Beat the clock

Senior defenseman Brendan McCarron of Andover and Central Catholic found the back of the net on a slap shot with 54 seconds left in regulation to lift Franklin Pierce past Stonehill 5-4. McCarron has six goals and seven assists in 17 games.

Senior Josh Jones of Salem is a reserve guard for the basketball team. Ex-Andover star Casey Cosgrove is a second-year assistant coach for the Ravens.

Second-year tri-captain Amanda Saab of Windham is averaging 8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists for the 13-6 women’s team.
