Merrimack snaps 18-game losing streak to Bentley

NORTH ANDOVER — Freshman Gelvis Solano scored 21 points and classmate J.T. Strickland added 14 as Merrimack College earned a 71-62 win over Bentley, snapping its 18-game losing streak to the Falcons.

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer gave the Warriors (9-12, 6-10 NE-10) a 37-33 lead at the break and they never trailed in the second half.

Bentley fell to 7-13 overall and 5-11 in the NE-10.

Merrimack is at Stonehill Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The women’s game is at 1:30 p.m.

Women lose fifth straight

NORTH ANDOVER — Bentley, the second ranked team in the country, showed why with a 72-58 win over Merrimack. It was the Warriors’ fifth straight loss.

Chloe Rothman led the Warriors with 13 points including 3 for 3 from 3-point land. Kelly Schatzlein (10 points, 10 rebounds) racked up her ninth double-double of the season. Jaclyn Lyons added 10 points.

The Warriors held the lead for about nine minutes of the first half but Bentley eventually got it going to improve to 20-0.

Merrimack fell to 11-9, 7-9 NE-10.
