Blue Devils can’t hold on
Salem had unbeaten Manchester Central on the run, leading the Little Green by 15 at the half, and by nine after 3 quarters, only to fall, 69-60.
“Up until that last five minutes, we played our best game all year,” said Salem coach Rob McLaughlin. “We played very well, but we just let one slip away.”
Andrew Ruffen paced Salem with a game-high 23 points.
Huge win for Reggies
At 8-9, Greater Lawrence Tech faced a pretty much win-or-wither matchup at Greater Lowell, and the Reggies delivered, pinning a 52-49 decision on the Gryphons.
Greater Lawrence now needs a win, either against Lynn Tech or Methuen, to qualify for the upcoming state tourney.
Cristian Rivera, who tossed in 10 points, anchored the Reggie defense late, while Frankely Estrella added 12 points.
“It was big for both teams,” said Reggies coach Dan Habib. “We needed it desperately.”
Win for Wiles
Calvin Wiles helped keep Pentucket’s state tourney hopes alive, tossing in 20 points and pulling down five rebounds for Pentucket in a 59-53 win over Triton.
The 6-10 Sachems need four straight wins to sneak in at 10-10.
