Providence Bruins skate past Monarchs

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Manchester Monarchs lost 3-2 to the Providence Bruins in the first game of a home-and-home series yesterday afternoon.

Left wingers Tanner Pearson and David Meckler scored for Manchester (21-22-2-2), which is fourth in the Atlantic Division. Providence (26-16-0-3) is second in the Atlantic Division.

Meckler’s goal came 37 seconds into the third period and brought the Monarchs within one goal at 3-2.

Winger Colton Yellow Horn tallied his first career AHL point with an assist in his AHL debut.

Manchester goalie Martin Jones (11-16-2) made 27 saves on 30 shots. Bruins netminder Niklas Svedberg (21-6-2) stopped 21 of 23 shots.

Manchester, which is on a five-game losing streak, went 0 for 1 on the power play while Providence was 1 for 6.

The Monarchs and Bruins play at 7 p.m. tomorrow in Manchester.
