LAWRENCE — After taking a period to unwind, Central Catholic’s boys bounced back in a big way yesterday afternoon from Sunday’s heartbreaking loss to St. John’s Prep.
The Raiders spotted defending Division 1 state champion Springfield Central a three-point lead and then romped to a 70-45 lopsided victory in the consolation game of the IAABO Board 130 tournament, boosting their record to 17-4.
Trailing 16-13, Nick Cambio and Joel Berroa led a second-quarter 22-7 blitz that turned the game around. The Raiders outscored Springfield 40-14 in the middle two quarters.
Cambio led all scorers with 25 points, while Berroa added 16 and Tyler Nelson chipped in with 13.
The Raiders will now rest for the Division 1 state tournament, the pairings for which will be announced Friday.
