Merrimack women win on late Schatzein hoop

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Trailing by 13@text1_r: at the half, Merrimack beat St. Michael’s, 66-64, on a lay-up by senior captain Kelly Schatzlein with 3.7 seconds left.

Schatzlein, who scored her hoop after two Merrimack offensive rebounds, finished with a game-high 19 points to go with six rebounds and four blocks. Ashley Weissmann added 12 points and stole the final St. Michael’s inbounds pass. Chloe Rothman contributed eight points.

Merrimack (13-11, 9-11 NE-10) is at Southern New Hampshire on Saturday for a crucial Northeast-10 game. The women will play at 1:30 p.m. and the men at 3:30 p.m.

St. Michael’s dropped to 9-15.

Warriors snap road jinx

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Merrimack rallied from a 7-point halftime deficit, owning the second half in a 71-57 win over St. Michael’s.

It was Merrimack’s first road win of the season (1-9). The Warriors did win two neutral court games at the season-opening Bentley Tourney.

Freshmen Gelvis Solano and J.T. Strickland scored 16 points apiece for Merrimack (11-14, 8-12). Kevin Regan had 11 points, Tyler Young 10 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Clifford nine points.

St. Michael’s fell to 8-16.
