SALEM — Salem High is holding its Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Atkinson Country Club. Tickets are $35 per person or $350 per table. For more information contact the athletic department at 603-893-7089.
Krista Michalczyk Atwell was a brilliant softball player, who enjoyed a magical senior year: 16-0, 0.24 ERA, six no-hitters (four perfect games), 221 strikeouts in 118 innings, one extra-base hit. and allowing just nine walks and 35 hits, only one for extra bases.
She was a two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star, our 2003 MVP and a member of our All-Decade team. She went 11-7 with a 4.14 ERA as a senior at UConn.
In volleyball, she was a three-year starter and co-captained the Blue Devils her senior year.
Chris White was at the forefront of the turnaround of the Salem basketball program. The 2005 graduate helped lead the Blue Devils to the 2004 Class L title game and helped clinch the historic tourney stunner of Trinity, the 11th-ranked team in the country, with a thunderous late-game slam dunk.
The two-time Eagle-Tribune All-Star made our Super Team as a senior when he averaged 18.1 points and 10.3 rebounds a game. He also was an Eagle-Tribune All-Star in track (1:57.35 personal best in the 800). He earned a basketball scholarship to St. Michael's.
Paul Lavoie, a 1989 graduate, was named Outstanding Male Athlete and Outstanding Male Spring Athlete as a senior. That spring he was an Eagle-Tribune All-Star in the 110 hurdles (15.20 personal best) and ran a school record 40.2 in the 300 hurdles.
He also competed in soccer, indoor track and gymnastics.
Thomas Gosselin was a three-year starter on the gridiron. An Eagle-Tribune All-Star as a senior in 1979, he scored 13 touchdowns and rushed for 765 yards and may have been even better on defense.
"As far as the coaches up here are concerned, he's the finest all-around player in the state," said Salem coach Hugh Johnson.
Kevin Courtemanche (SHS '80), an accomplished opera singer, is also being inducted.
