Will’s back

He may not be Central Catholic’s top lineman, but the Raiders have an All-MVC personality back this season in lineman Kuiye “Will” Du.

You may remember Du as the native of Northwest China who came to America last year to attend Central Catholic. He then decided to go out for football despite knowing nothing about the sport other than what he saw in the movie “Forrest Gump.”

Well, Du is back for his senior season through the school’s International Student program, and the Raiders are thrilled to have the comical “Will” back in the program. He has even developed a knack for the game.

Traveling man

Andover football, which graduated four Eagle-Tribune All-Stars, received a huge boost to its defense this summer with the return of linebacker Will Eikenberry.

Eikenberry started for the Golden Warriors two years ago as a sophomore at linebacker, leading the team with 87 total tackles and tying for the team-high with seven tackles for a loss. He also made five sacks.

The senior has certainly had a well-traveled high school career. He attended Brooks as a freshman, played at Andover as a sophomore and went to Brewster Academy as a junior while being recruited to play college lacrosse. After committing to play lacrosse at Delaware, he returned to the Golden Warriors and football, which he could not play last season because Brewster does not field a team.

Blackwell fights back

Yesterday was a big day for Harvard hockey player Colin Blackwell of North Andover.

The former St. John’s Prep standout tweeted that he returned to the ice for the first time in seven months, since suffering a pair of concussions which ended his sophomore season. Blackwell, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft by the San Jose Sharks, scored three goals and had 11 assists in 21 games before his season ended.
