Hart of a Warrior
With the Warriors in need of a spark, the senior two-way lineman plowed through to block a punt deep in the North Andover zone with just over two minutes to play that set up the tying touchdown. He then led the tackle on the North Andover two-point conversion in overtime that proved the deciding points.
The Big O
The 280-pound junior defensive tackle was simply unstoppable. He was all over the field with 14 tackles, a sack in overtime and simply ate up the middle of the field to stuff the inside run. He also contributed on the offensive line in Andover’s thrilling 33-32 overtime win over North Andover.
Lost in the shocking opening night upset by Bedford was the return to the lineup of co-captain Matt Madden.
The linebacker missed last year’s playoff loss with a knee injury. He is clearly back, though, playing on both sides of the ball with no signs of injury and no brace on that knee. He plowed in from the 1 to give Pinkerton a 12-7 lead in the third quarter.
Next in line
Salem has had some great running backs over the last decade and senior Jason Martinez showed last night that he may be next in line. He scored on a 24-yard run to tie the score. 7-7, in the 20-7 loss to Manchester Memorial. He finished with 156 yards rushing as well as a reception good for 37 yards. “He is a heck of a back,” said Memorial coach Peter Colcard.
