Haverhill’s field hockey team defeated Methuen for the first time in recent memory and also went over the .500 mark with a 2-1 record. Holly Pereira scored both goals in the first half, on assists from Rakel Tavitian and Liz Duchemin, and Sarah Hrubo played a terrific game defensively.
“The girls are working really hard and soaking up everything,” said first-year Haverhill coach Kerry D’Ambroise.
Methuen’s football game against Cambridge Rindge & Latin has been moved from Friday night to Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Windham’s volleyball team held a 2-1 lead after three games but Portsmouth charged back to nip the Jaguars 26-24, 15-13 in the final two games. Lexi Sawyer had 20 service points for the Jaguars.
Haverhill’s golf team won its second straight in impressive fashion, whipping Andover 13 1/2-6 1/2. Led by medalist Jack Gorman (36), the Hillies only lost one match. Sophomore Sean Bellemore halved his match at No. 1 with Andover’s Brett Krekorian, both of whom shot 37.
Greater Lawrence freshman Pedro Lopez scored a hat trick, with the last goal coming with one minute left, to lift the Reggies to a 4-3 victory over Innovation Academy. Lopez, who is usually the starting goalie, has five goals in two games.
Ties low score
Jake Vaiknoras shot a 34, tying the school record he held with his brother, Jesse, as Pelham defeated Conant, Laconia and Winnisquam in golf.
Miller out fast
North Andover’s Alesandra Miller scored twice as Brooks opened its field hockey season in style with a 4-0 victory over Pingree.
Timely first goal
Sophomore Hannah Cohen scored her first varsity goal early in the second half to lift Londonderry past previously unbeaten Concord, 1-0 in field hockey.
