The “I Beat Burt” Contest is back and our readers spoke loudly with over 350 entries in Week 2 of the pro football season.
This season’s contest, co-sponsored by Optimum Sportswear of Lawrence, got off to a good start with one entry, Abe Abdulla of Lawrence, hitting on all 15 games.
Abdulla won twice a year ago, but is already off to a lightning fast start.
This week, Burt “struggled” to win nine of 15 games, missing on three underdogs and hitting on another (he had Arizona beating Detroit).
In all, the were 89 entries that picked more than nine winners.
Each week a maximum of 10 winners are awarded T-shirts with the Patriots score (last week it was Denver as the Patriots played on Thursday night) as the first tie-breaker. The second tiebreaker is amount of correct selections. The last tiebreaker is random draw.
This week, eight of the winners were within two points of the Colts’ 41 points, and two more were within a field goal, needing the second tiebreaker.
Readers have a chance to fill out an entry blank in The Eagle-Tribune or they can enter on-line at www.eagletribune.com/beat burt.
