Warriors erupt in field hockey

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — NORTH ANDOVER — The Merrimack College field hockey team exploded for a season-high seven-goal output, and that proved to be too much for visiting Adelphi, as the Warriors thrashed the Panthers, 7-1, in both sides’ Northeast-10 Conference opener last night.

Six different players tallied a point for the home side, as the Warriors (5-3) built a 3-1 advantage through 35 minutes before dominating the second half by means of four more uncontested tallies to account for the final margin of victory.

Warrior runners in 2nd

BOSTON – Competing for the first time since emerging victorious at the Kirsh Cross Country Cup on Sept. 14, the Merrimack College women’s cross country team picked up where it left off by placing second in an 11-team field at the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park in Boston.

Junior Kelsey Grimmer led the way on the 5K course, finishing 15th overall in 19:57.

Cruz takes 12th

BOSTON – Sophomore runner Nick Christensen led the way with an eighth-place finish out of 130 competitors, while the Merrimack men’s cross country team finished in fourth place out of 10 teams at the Codfish Bowl.

Junior Luis Cruz of Lawrence backed up Christensen, just missing a spot inside the top-10 by placing 12th.
