Methuen gets nod in pivotal matchup with Hillies

Grid Picks
Dave Dyer

---- — Here’s some good news for Haverhill football. I’m picking the Hillies to lose to Methuen this week and that will make Haverhill coach Tim O’Connor quite pleased.

I’ve picked against the 2-1 Hillies every game this year and, after last week’s impressive 26-12 victory over Lawrence, he had a simple request.

“Just keep picking against us,” said O’Connor. “I love it.”

The way the Hillies played in the second half last week, I’m tempted to go the other way, but Methuen has been mighty impressive of late as well.

Both teams are certainly capable and will be fired up because the game has serious playoff implications.

PREDICTION: Methuen 28, Haverhill 21

Winnisquam (2-2) at Pelham (3-0)

Pelham seems to have all facets of its game working well.

Prediction: Pelham 20, Winnisquam 12

Pentucket (2-0) at Newburyport (2-1)

The schedule will get even tougher down the road, so the Sachems need a win here.

Prediction: Pentucket 21, Newburyport 20

Chelmsford (2-1) at Andover (1-2)

Which ever team gets better play out of its quarterback will prevail.

Prediction: Chelmsford 28, Andover 24

Pinkerton (3-1) at Memorial (1-3)

Memorial has some weapons, but it’s inconsistent.

Prediction: Pinkerton 30, Memorial 20

Londonderry (2-2) at Concord (4-0)

The Lancers may be hard pressed to keep it close against Concord, the top-ranked team in the state. The Tide is averaging a stunning 52.8 points a game.

Prediction: Concord 41, Londonderry 14

Georgetown (0-3) at Ipswich (0-3)

Even without Colby Ingraham (knee), the Royals may squeeze out its first win.

Prediction: Georgetown 14, Ipswich 12

Manchester West (0-4) at Salem (0-4)

This is almost a must-win game because the loser may be looking at a winless season.

Prediction: Salem 23, Manchester West 8

Tewksbury (3-0) at Lawrence (0-3)

Lawrence just can’t seem to find consistency and it likely won’t against a Tewksbury club aiming for a banner season.

Prediction: Tewksbury 33, Lawrence 20

Masconomet (2-1) at North Reading (2-1)

Masco is a larger school and has played a much tougher schedule.

Prediction: Masco 33, North Reading 7

North Andover (0-3) at Dracut (0-3)

There will be a lot of offense in this one, with turnovers making the difference.

Prediction: Dracut 34, North Andover 33

Keene (2-2) at Timberlane (1-3)

The Owls have a tough schedule of home games and this is one of them.

Prediction: Keene 27, Timberlane 14

Greater Lawrence (1-3) at Gr. Lowell (0-3)

There is no better time for the Reggies to turn things around.

Prediction: Gr. Lawrence 26, Gr. Lowell 16

Milford (3-1) at Windham (3-1)

This should be an entertaining game to watch.

Prediction: Windham 27, Milford 20

Northeast (3-0) at Whittier (3-1)

Northeast is averaging 43.3 points a game led by Troy Tartarini (5 TD passes).

Prediction: Northeast 35, Whittier 20

ConVal (0-4) at Sanborn (2-2)

Sanborn’s offense has been more consistent than ConVal’s. The visitors have been shut out three times already.

Prediction: Sanborn 27, Con-Val 20

Brooks (1-1) at St. George’s (0-2)

The Green and White have a legitimate chance of getting back over .500.

Prediction: Brooks 21, St. George’s 13

Choate (1-1) at Phillips (2-0)

Choate, which is coming off a loss to Exeter, has an excellent offense, but so does the Big Blue.

Prediction: Phillips 28, Choate 27

Season record: 38-17
