Pancake breakfast June 9

First Congregational Church, Andover Street, will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday, June 9, from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Adults, $5; children under 5, free. Proceeds benefit the James H. Boynton Scholarship Fund.

Open house for new hook and ladder June 10

The Georgetown Fire Department will hold an open house Sunday, June 10, from noon to 3 p.m. at Central Fire Station, 47 Central St. Welcome the newest addition to the community, Hook and Ladder Number One, a 2007 Ferrara aerial ladder. There will be apparatus on display, fire prevention giveaways, light refreshments, historical display and more. For information, e-mail Donna Robbins at DRobbins@GeorgetownMa.gov.

Alumni music concert June 15

The second annual Georgetown High School alumni music concert will be Friday, June 15, at 7 p.m. Visit www.georgetown.k12.ma.us and select Schools, GMHS. Republicans to gather on June 16

The Georgetown Republican Town Committee will host its fifth annual family picnic and auction on Saturday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Camp Denison, 84 Nelson St., Georgetown. The event is open to the general public, with food, live music by the Strummers Ragtime Band, children's games, face painting and an auction. Representatives from four Republican presidential campaigns have indicated their intentions to attend.

The picnic is held regardless of the weather.

State Sen. Bruce Tarr will serve as auctioneer; the auction serves as the annual fundraiser for the town committee. Items to be auctioned include a tour of the Statehouse and lunch with Tarr and state Rep. Brad Hill, a family ride on an antique fire engine, sports tickets, sports memorabilia and many more items.

Tickets are $10 per person or $25 per family and can be purchased at the entrance. For information or to donate auction items, call Terry Hart at 978-352-2257 or Chairwoman Karen Myers at 978-352-9981.

Old-fashioned baseball June 23

The Ironsides baseball team of New Bedford will play the Lynn Live Oaks at the Perley field on North Street on Saturday, June 23, at 1 p.m. Game will be played according to 1861 rules and will be a doubleheader. For the second game, the spectators (also known as "cranks") can join in. Free to all. The Historical Society will pass the hat during the game for donations. For information, call 978-352-8526. The Essex Base Ball Organization, consisting of three teams, play by the rules and customs of 19th century baseball, put on exhibitions, and offer education and entertainment. House tours needs you

The Georgetown Historical Society is sponsoring a house tour in 2008 and looking for people to join the committee. You must be able to give time to monthly meetings and be available for the day of the event.
