LAWRENCE — John Louis Bernard, 77, a longtime Lawrence resident, died Monday, March 1, 2010 at Veteran's Affairs Medical Center-ECU, Manchester, N.H., where he was being taken care of.
Born and educated in Methuen, he rendered honorable and distinguished service to this nation in the United States Army during the Korean War, in the capacity of medical combat officer. Upon being honorably discharged, he was employed as a medical orderly at the former Connecticut State Hospital, Middletown, Conn.
Mr. Bernard was a very social person, he made friends easily and enjoyed playing cards.
He leaves three daughters, all of Florida; his companion, Angie Savinelli, who was the love of his life, of Lawrence; one brother, Harold Bernard and his wife Joan M., of Bradford; two sisters, Maryan and Carolan of Lawrence. One son, John Bernard, predeceased him at the untimely age of 17.
ARRANGEMENTS: In fulfillment of his wishes, there will not be any visiting hours at the funeral home. A memorial graveside service with military honors present will take place, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at St. Mary Cemetery, Barker Street, Lawrence at 1 p.m., in the Field of Heroes' Veteran Memorial Section.
