SANDOWN, N.H. — Michael C. "Deke" DeCarlo, 49, of Sandown, died unexpectedly of natural causes last Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009 at Westchester County Medical Center in Mt. Kisco, N.Y.
Born in Malden, son of Carmen and Mary Anne (Lancian) DeCarlo, he was raised and educated in Winchester. A nationally ranked swimmer and athlete, Michael attended Belmont Hill in Arlington and later graduated in 1978 from the Peddie School in Heightstown, N.J., where he was a member of the varsity swim team and served as senior class president. He attended The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the swim team.
Michael was presently working as a sales representative for Tatoo Johnny of Atlanta, and had also previously been employed at Acxiom Corporation and Ameriprise Financial.
An accomplished self-taught musician, he was a guitarist who performed in small local venues across New England. He also participated in several Iron Man competitions across the country.
A resident of Sandown for the past 25 years, Michael attended St. Anne's Church in Hampstead and was a member of the Peddie School Alumni Association.
Survivors include his parents, Carmen and Mary Anne (Lancian) DeCarlo, of Sandown; twin daughters, Justine DeCarlo and Melissa DeCarlo, of Sandown; two grandsons, Anthony DeCarlo and Nicholas Aye of Sandown; two brothers, James L. "Chuck" DeCarlo of Sandown, and Paul A. DeCarlo and his wife Lisa of Davenport, Fla.; two sisters, Julie Nesto and her husband Richard of Sandown, and MaryAnne Iandolo and her husband Dominic of Sandown; also two aunts, Frances Rossetti and Julia Lancian; an uncle, Thomas Lancian; three nieces; one nephew and several cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, Emerson Avenue, Hampstead. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, Plaistow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to New Hampshire Catholic Charities, P.O.Box 686, Manchester, NH 03105.
