PLAISTOW, N.H. — Barry M. Ramsell, 63, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, following a courageous battle with ALS.
Born in Sanford, Maine, son of the late Roger and Berthe (Gosselin) Ramsell, he was raised in Sanford and Waterboro, Maine, and was a 1965 graduate of Sanford High School, where he was a member of the Sanford High School Drum and Bugle Corps.
Mr. Ramsell served as a Seaman in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of The National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Throughout his career, he worked as an inspector for Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies for 36 years.
A resident of the Plaistow area for many years, he was a member of the Wolves Club in Sanford, Maine, and the American Legion Carl Davis Post in Plaistow. Mr. Ramsell was an avid Yankees fan and he also enjoyed golfing, playing cards, country music and spending time with his family. He was a drummer in several bands from high school through most of his adult life, and formed the group "The Honda's" with his longtime friend, Sonny Martineau.
Survivors include his wife, Diane (Mace) Ramsell; two stepsons, Rodney P. and his wife Shannon DesRoche and Jonathan E. DesRoche, all of Bradford; one grandson, Jared DesRoche; his mother-in-law, Priscilla German of Hampstead, N.H.; his best friend, Sonny Martineau of Sanford, Maine; and several cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. A reception will follow at the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Main Street, Plaistow. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Pine Grove South Cemetery in Waterboro, Maine.
