Tonight's scheduled televised debate between 6th District congressional candidates Democrat Seth Moulton and Republican Richard Tisei has been canceled.Â
The debate, on NECN's "Broadside" with Jim Braude, has been canceled following the death of former Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, according to a press release from Tisei's campaign.Â
Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Charlie Baker, who have been locked in a tight race for governor, also postponed their public campaign events for the day following news of Menino's death.Â
Baker had events scheduled in Attleboro, Boston, Taunton and Westport. Coakley had planned to meet with fishermen in Gloucester.
Menino died Thursday morning at age 71. He was diagnosed with advanced cancer in February.
Coakley issued a statement Thursday calling Menino "a friend and mentor, and a shining example to me and countless others of what it means to love and serve your community."
Baker said in a statement that Menino "threw himself into the job of mayor of Boston with an enthusiasm and intensity that may never be duplicated."
The election is Nov. 4.
