Winnekenni Castle will host a Kids Science Adventure Day and Wild Animal Kingdom on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. 

A Curious Creatures program is at 1 p.m. and will feature alligators, frogs, lizards, arachnids, snakes, flying squirrels, chinchillas, skunks, hedgehogs, geckos, bearded dragons and other creatures. Accipiter Enterprises Birds of Prey program is at 2:30 p.m. and will feature a multi-faceted show, conditions permitting, with owls, falcons, hawks, a free-flight program and simulated hunt. 

Presentations will be held inside the castle in the event of rain or extreme heat. Refreshments will be available. Suggested donation is $5 per family. Labor Day Blues Concert on tap

Winnekenni Castle will present a free Labor Day Blues Concert on Monday from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring rock and roll and rhythm and blues with The Undaunted Professor Harp.

Admission is free, although Wishing Well donations are welcome. Visitors are asked to bring blankets, chairs, parasols, family and friends. Lemonade, root-beer floats, popcorn and hot dogs will be available.

Haverhill Senior Baseball registration

Haverhill Senior Baseball is registering players for the fall season, which has divisions for 13-year-olds, 14- and 15-year-olds and 16- to 18-year-olds.

Play will begin the weekend of Sept. 6 and run through the end of October. There are only a few openings left on the 14-, 15-, and 16- to 18-year-olds teams. Vendors needed for craft fair

Vendors are being sought to participate in a craft fair in the parking lot of the Walmart in Plaistow on Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Riverside-Bradford Baseball League is accepting nominations to its board of directors.

Chili cook-off registering now

Sept. 1 is the deadline to register for the seventh annual Haverhill Firefighting Museum Chili Cook-off planned for Sept. 27 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The annual chili cook-off is the nonprofit museum’s largest annual fundraiser and draws hundreds of people to taste and vote on the best chili recipes around, win door prizes and take part in a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. 

Categories include Best Fire House recipe, Best Individual recipe and Best Restaurant recipe. Entry forms can be found online at There is a $25 entry fee.
