Don't be fooled by the sunshine Thursday morning — temperatures are expected to drop and snow will fall Thursday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the western portion of Essex County from 7 p.m. Thursday to 7 a.m. Friday, meaning periods of snow will cause difficulties for drivers.

A total accumulation of 4 inches of snow is expected in the Merrimack Valley and Southern New Hampshire, with winds gusting up to 40 mph.

The National Weather Service is warning drivers to beware of slippery road conditions that could impact the Thursday evening and Friday morning commutes. The weather service advised drivers to expect snow-covered roads and limited visibility.
