HAVERHILL — Police said they are investigating an armed home invasion Wednesday night that sent a woman and a child to the hospital.

Police were called to 2 Columbia Park at 9:17 p.m., according to a statement from Capt. Robert Pistone.

Multiple masked men armed with a pistol invaded an apartment at that address and demanded money, police said. A woman and several children were home during the attack, police said.

The woman and one of the children were injured during the incident and were taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said. They are expected to recover.

Police believe this was a targeted attack, Pistone said. The department will have an increased police presence in the area Thursday.

The suspects were described as men in black jeans and hoodies wearing masks. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Haverhill Police Department at 978-373-1212. Tips may be anonymous.
