Library hosts presentation on soldiers' letters
HAVERHILL — The public library will host a presentation by writer Corinne Smith from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. In May 2017, Corinne discovered her mother's stash of more than 100 letters from 16 servicemen she had corresponded with from 1944 to 1945.
She began to trace the soldiers' family trees with one goal in mind: to return the letters in person to their children. This presentation links history and genealogy to present-day research and diligence. It revisits a time that we may not want to forget. And it may prompt others to wonder for themselves what treasures lurk in their own old family boxes, and how they can share the information with others. This program is in partnership with the Haverhill Council on Aging in honor of the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Register online at www.haverhillpl.org under Calendar of Events or call 978-373-1586, ext. 608.

Three sisters open breakfast cafe
HAVERHILL — Three sisters, all Haverhill natives, recently opened a breakfast cafe they aptly named, "Sisters Cafe," which is located in Academy Plaza in Bradford.
Laurie Erickson of Londonderry and her sisters Kim Walsh and Lisa Wadsworth, both of Haverhill renovated and redecorated the former Breakfast Cafe to create a cozy and bright atmosphere, they said. Kim and Lisa have lengthy experience in waitressing, including at the former Al's Diner on Primrose Street, while Laurie is a pastry chef at Finesse Pastries, which her daughter Chelsey Erickson operates in Somerville and Boston. Their head chef is Kim's husband, Rick Walsh, who leads a staff of two cooks. They have other staff as well.
The business seats around 50 people and in addition to standard breakfast items, the menu includes pastries made daily at Finesse, including coffee cake along with an assortment of scones, turnovers, muffins, cookies and other pastries.
"We've always wanted to work together and we're enjoying it," Laurie said.
