HAVERHILL — This year's Merrimack Valley YMCA Golf Tournament will happen Monday July 29 at Haverhill Country Club at noon.

As a nonprofit organization, the group never turns away folks who need a membership or a Y program. All support provides scholarships and financial assistance to help the group provide educational support, teen leadership programs, youth development opportunities, water safety instruction and health and wellness services to the community.

The golf tournament cost is $250 per golfer. That price includes golf, carts, lunch, dinner and thank you gifts for participants.

Car wash benefits Neighbors in Need

LAWRENCE — The Lawrence Rotary Club, in conjunction with its high school youth group the Interact Club of the Greater Lawrence Technical School, is sponsoring a car wash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, May 11 in front of the Greater Lawrence Technical School at 57 River Road, in Andover.

The requested donation is $5. Washing, rinsing and drying will be done by the kids. All money raised will be donated to Neighbors In Need in Lawrence.

Rotary International is a worldwide service organization comprised of 1.3 million members in more than 25,000 clubs. Its motto is “Service Above Self.”

Since 1920, the Lawrence Rotary Club has endeavored to work hard for Lawrence and, through many ongoing projects and programs, to positively impact the quality of life.

Fashion Show is Wednesday

HAVERHILL —  The Haverhill High School Fashion Design classes and Fashion Club will host a Fashion Show fundraiser at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, in the high school auditorium, 137 Monument St.

Experience fashions available at local businesses, including Maurice's and Opal & Oak Boutique, and also items designed and constructed by the students. Admission is $5 per person.

Ghost hunt is planned for Saturday

HAVERHILL — The Essex County Ghost Project will lead a ghost hunt at the "haunted" Hilldale Cemetery on Saturday, May 11. Gates open at 7:15 p.m.

The ghost hunt will begin around 7:45 p.m. and will include a discussion of spirits, the history of the cemetery and improvements that are taking place. Please bring cameras and recording equipment and please wear proper shoes for walking on gravel and grass.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10, which will go towards the purchase of a new lawn mower for the cemetery and also the cemetery's restoration fund.

Hall of Fame induction is Saturday, May 11

HAVERHILL — The Haverhill Citizens Hall of Fame will hold an induction ceremony for vaudeville star Maggie Cline at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at The Peddler’s Daughter, 45 Wingate St.

Master of Ceremonies is Jay Cleary, a local historian and attorney.

Hall of Fame Committee member Jack Lynch will discuss Cline's vaudeville career. Ruth Cranton will appear as Maggie, singing "McCloskey," and Paul Prue will perform several other Cline favorites. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Seating is limited.

Art show is May 13

HAVERHILL — Haverhill High School will host this year's "Arts Alive" City-Wide Art Show and Spring Concert from 4 to 7 p.m. on May 13 in the high school's lower level and auditorium, 137 Monument St. The program will be awarded "Best in Show" and a panel of local artists and art advocates will serve as judges. Musical performances begin at 6 p.m.

Wine and Beer Event on tap

HAVERHILL — The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill will hold its annual Wine and Beer Event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, prior to the Memorial Day weekend, at the Renaissance Golf Club, Several vendors will be offering tastings of different beers, wines and rums. Casablanca Restaurant will have a food and margarita tasting station, and Maria's Restaurant will have a carving station, pasta station and various food samplings. The Renaissance will host a food sampling station with items prepared by their new executive chef. Raffle tickets will be available for items including an instant wine cellar, summer beer package, and other items. All proceeds benefit the club's summer teen program and camperships to Camp Tasker.
