GLOUCESTER, Mass. (AP) — The Coast Guard continued their search this morning for a 50-year-old man who failed to resurface after a dive off Gloucester yesterday.
Coast Guard Petty Officer Luke Pinneo said the man, whose name was not released, had gone diving in about 90 feet of water with two other people at the site where the tanker Chester A. Poling sank in 1977.
The two other divers went back underwater in search of the man but called authorities after failing to locate him.
Pinneo said two Coast Guard cutters and a helicopter were being used in the search. A rescue boat with divers from the state police and Beverly police department was also sent to the area, about one-half mile south of Gloucester, located off Eastern Point.
Police and other rescuers also searched the coastline for the missing man.
