LAWRENCE — A woman returned to her Chester Street apartment to discover she had been the victim of a burglary, police said.

Angela Nunez, told Officer David Moynihan Jr. she found the common entry door to the building open and the front door to her apartment wide open when she returned at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Once she went inside, she noticed an Acer laptop computer, a DSI game, a Sony DVD player, and a PlayStation 3 were missing.

Moynihan checked with an upstairs neighbor who said he wasn't home between noon and 3:30 p.m. and not heard anything while he was home.

Police said there are no suspects or witnesses.

The break was reported at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Manager thwarts try to pass bogus $100 bill

HAVERHILL — A man who tried to pay for $8 worth of food at the South Main Street McDonalds with a counterfeit $100 bill, left hungry and minus the change after the night manager detected the fake bill and refused to give him his order.

Kyle Van Buskirk, manager of the restaurant at 63 S. Main St., told Officer Paul Malone the man entered the restaurant about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and ordered $8 worth of food and paid with a $100 bill. Van Buskirk said night manager Emil Concepcion examined the bill in the back room, determined it to be a fake, and refused to give the man his food order.

The man left the store leaving the bill behind.

The bill was seized and held as evidence by police.
