METHUEN – A fundraising canister for a dance school was reported stolen from the counter of a Prospect Street market, police said.

Aixa Ramirez, owner of Carolina’s Market at 462 Prospect St., told Detectives Chuck DeJesus and Thomas McMenamon Jr., that earlier in the day Monday, a man came into the store and purchased a few scratch tickets and took the fundraiser can.

She told the detectives the theft went unnoticed until later in the day when she viewed the store security video and saw what happened to the can.

Police said the video showed a man possibly in his 20s or 30s wearing a baseball cap, enter the store and purchase the tickets.

He then distracted the clerk and slid the canister over to one side of the counter, then leaves the store with it, police said.

The incident occurred about 2:30 p.m. Monday and was reported at 7 p.m., police said,.

Four charged with car breaks

HAVERHILL– Four people were arrested early Monday morning when police responded to reports of people breaking into cars on Lowell Avenue.

Roberto Rivera, 18, of 132 S. Elm St., and Michael Ellis, 17, of 32 Arch St,. were charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny over $250, and possession of burglary tools.

Roman Ruden, 17, of 137 Farnham St.,, Lawrence was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny over $250, and possession of burglary tools.

Elias Shea, 17, 97 Lincoln Ave., was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle two counts, malicious damage to a vehicle, resisting arrest and larceny over $250, police said.

Officers Dennis Moriarty and James Keenan made the arrests about 2:50 a.m., police said.
