KINGSTON — A head-on crash sent an 8-year-old to the hospital with serious injuries yesterday morning, police said.

Rachell West of Exeter was driving a Ford Windstar west on Route 111 when it crossed the center line and struck a Nissan Murano driven by Stephanie Raymond of Danville, Kingston police Chief Donald Briggs Jr. said. The crash occurred about 9:30 a.m.

The girl, a passenger in West's vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Exeter Hospital, Briggs said. West and Raymond suffered minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital, he said.

Briggs said the cause of the crash was “partially weather related” but did not elaborate. Several inches of snow fell early yesterday. The accident remains under investigation, he said.

Briggs said the airbags in both vehicles deployed during the crash. He was unsure if everyone was wearing seat belts.

Route 111, between Little River Road and Clement Avenue, was closed for about an hour.
