HAVERHILL - A Haverhill child rape suspect was arrested early this morning in New York City.
The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the Haverhill Police Department in recent days tracked the suspect to an address in New York City.
Jose Alberto Gonzalez-Bonilla, a.k.a., Jose B. Gonzalez, 29, was found at 5:30 this morning hiding in the closet of an apartment at 43-17 49th St. in Queens.
He was taken into custody by the New York City Police Department.
Gonzalez-Bonilla is the subject of a warrant out of Haverhill District Court charging him with rape of a child with force. Evidence developed by Haverhill Police indicates that he repeatedly raped a female 11-year-old relative repeatedly, beginning in 2009.
State Police and Haverhill Police had worked together on the investigation since Dec. 2, and as a result of various investigative methods focused on a New York City address this weekend. The information was relayed to the New York Police Department yesterday.
The Essex County District Attorney's Office will coordinate the defendant's return to Massachusetts with New York authorities.
