HAVERHILL — A Haverhill man faces a fugitive from justice charge in connection with the theft and pawning of jewelry stolen from Kmart in Salem, N.H.

Richard Abreu, 19, of 39 Nichols St., was arraigned on the fugitive charge in Haverhill District Court yesterday. Judge Patricia Dowling ordered him to return to court Oct. 22. Abreu was arrested on a fugitive warrant on White Street at 5:40 p.m. Sunday.

According to an affidavit filed by Plaistow, N.H., Detective Nicolas Fiset, Abreu confessed to stealing jewelry from Kmart, where he was then employed, on June 15. He then pawned the stolen items, four gold rings and two bracelets, at the Rockingham Trading Post in Plaistow and received $270, Fiset said.

The New Hampshire charges filed against Abreu are theft by deception, receiving stolen property and answering falsification.
