HAVERHILL — A Groveland Street man is being charged with interfering with a police investigation into the heroin overdose of a Salisbury woman April 29.

Jeffrey Howes, 33, 189 Groveland St., is also being charged with being present where heroin is kept.

According to police reports, Howes called 911 April 29. Police found Lisa Lesage, 31, of Salisbury, unconscious and lying on the floor in the second-floor apartment a few minutes before midnight, police said.

Trinity EMS paramedics and firefighters treated the woman at the scene before she was transported to Merrimack Valley Hospital, where she was in critical condition and breathing with the assistance of a ventilator, according to the report filed by Detective Carl Rogers. She was subsequently transferred to Brigham and Women's, where she died May 1.

Howes told Rogers he did not know anything about Lesage using heroin at his apartment and denied the drug was on the premises, the detective wrote. Patrolman Dana Burrill Jr. found a small glassine bag of heroin in the bathroom, police said.
