SALEM — Police are looking for a man who brandished a handgun at two hairstylists at a Main Street salon Tuesday night before making off with about $200 in cash.
Salon 97 at 401 Main St. was robbed at 9:10 p.m.
The robber is described as a slim, white male of medium height, wearing a mask, jeans and a green hoodie. He entered the salon, showed a handgun, and demanded money from the register, police Capt. Shawn Patten said.
"On the way out the door, he yelled, 'Merry (expletive) Christmas,'" Patten said.
During the robbery, the robber took money from the purses of the two women along with their cell phones, Patten said. He ripped the phone from the wall before fleeing on foot.
The women ran to a nearby store to call police. A state police trooper with a dog tracked the robber's scent to a nearby parking lot where the track ended.
Patten said investigators believe the robber was able to leave the area in a car. While the trooper was tracking the scent, police found $40 in cash believed to be a portion of the stolen money and two smashed cell phones.
Detectives are looking for surveillance footage from several nearby businesses to see if cameras may have caught images of the robber.
Anyone with information on the robbery can call Detective Mike Rogers at 890-2351 or Crimeline of Southern New Hampshire at 893-6600.
