METHUEN — The driver of a car that crashed into a utility pole on Old Ferry Road early Thursday afternoon was issued a citation for failure to stay within marked lanes, according to Police Chief Joseph Solomon.

No one was injured in the accident but power in the area was out for several hours, Solomon said. The driver, a 68-year-old woman, told police she was trying to turn on her windshield wipers and looked down before the crash.

An initial report indicated she was alone in the car, but she was accompanied by a 10-year-old child, Solomon said. Old Ferry Road was closed between Olympic Village Driver and Athens Way while a National Grid crew repaired the pole and replaced the fallen wires.

The accident happened before 1:30 p.m. The car sustained heavy front end damage.
