LAWRENCE — Young basketball players from across the Merrimack Valley will show off their best skills in teamwork and fair play during the 12th annual Walter Kimball Classic Youth Basketball League Jamboree this weekend.
The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Lawrence YMCA. Merrimack Valley YMCA Youth Basketball League teams from the pre-k/kindergarten, and first/second-grade divisions, from the Lawrence, Methuen and Andover/North Andover branches will compete.
Kimball, one of the founding fathers of the YBL in the 1970s, will attend the awards ceremony at noon. One player from each team in the pre-k/kindergarten division will receive the Walter Kimball Sportsmanship Award, chosen by their coaches based on sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the season, as well as their display of the four core YMCA values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Sponsors of this year's Kimball Classic include Lawrence General Hospital, the Barry Kara Foundation and PrimeTime Sports.

Methuen Rail Trail closed for construction
METHUEN — The Rail Trail will be closed for several months as it undergoes construction.
The 2.4-mile rail trail spans from the Lawrence line to Salem, New Hampshire. The city received $1.65 million from the Gateway Cities Parks Program in 2016, which it is combining with other funds to pave the trail and add related amenities.
Construction is set to be completed in October 2018.
Merrimack Valley Hospice offers grief support group for men
HAVERHILL — Merrimack Valley Hospice is offering a support group for men who are grieving the loss of a loved one.
The support group begins Tuesday, March 13 and runs for 16 weeks, ending June 26. The group will gather in a meeting room at Haverhill Crossings Assisted Living Residence, 254 Amesbury Road, Haverhill.
This support group is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for men who are grieving to share their experiences and feelings with their peers and to learn about the grieving process. It will be led by specially trained facilitators Joe Bernard and Richard Davis, and focus on the unique issues and concerns specific to adult men.

Discuss North Andover's master plan
NORTH ANDOVER — The North Andover Master Plan Advisory Committee invites residents to attend the second public forum for the town's master plan.
The master plan is a long-range vision that guides decisions that affect the fabric and make up of North Andover. It is important that residents take part in this meeting to help formulate the community’s vision and goals for the future.
The public forum hopes to be informative, educational and interactive. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15 in the high school cafeteria, 430 Osgood St.
