METHUEN — Residents at Methuen Village Assisted Living took a trip to Haiti in spirit recently, learning about the country's culture through the Grab Your Passport program.

The program was developed by Methuen Village's parent company, Senior Living Residences, as a way to connect residents with the world around them by spending a day each month virtually traveling to an exotic country or city by exploring the destination's art, history, music, cuisine and sightseeing.

During their “Day in Haiti,” residents were treated to a dance performance by Jean Appolon Expressions of Boston, and some were even given dance lessons.

The day also supported the Be Like Brit Foundation Inc., an organization formed in memory of Britney Gengel, a Massachusetts college student who died in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Methuen Village is collecting donations for the organization and an orphanage called Brit's Home.

For more information, visit To donate items for the children of Brit's Home, call Anne Lafortune, EnrichedLIFE director at Methuen Village, at 978-685-2220. Methuen Village residents will travel to the organization's headquarters in Worcester to deliver the donations.
