WINDHAM — Al Letizio Jr. and his family are donating a commemorative tower to their hometown during this year's 275th anniversary celebration.
Friends, neighbors and town officials were on hand for a ground breaking ceremony on June 5, to mark the beginning of construction on a tower designed in the same style that Edward Searles used for Windham's famed castle down the road at the turn of the 20th century.
The tower will be located in the center of the cul de sac at the end of Enterprise Drive, right next to A.J. Letizio Enterprise Center. That facility will also be expanded to 20,000 square feet in the coming months, Letizio said.
The goal, he said, is to transform the currently empty location — adjacent to the Interstate 93/Route 111 split — into a prominent emblem in line with the town's 'old values, new horizons' motto.
The tower is slated for completion in August, when a dedication ceremony will be held.
