SALEM, N.H. — Senior Mackenna Fili was awarded the Fran Brennan Memorial Scholarship by the Salem Democratic Town Committee on May 30 at the school's scholarship awards.

Fili stood out among many exceptional applicants because of her academic achievement, community involvement, and her ability to articulate her passion to teach elementary school children, wrote the scholarship committee chair Carla Billingham.

The scholarship, named in memory of a long-time Salem Democrat who was committed to excellence in education, is awarded to a high school senior who resides in Salem and excels in both academics and community service. The recipient must have a 3.0 grade point average and has applied or been accepted to an accredited college, university or community college, or a technical or vocational school.
