Methuen crash

Methuen Police, Methuen Fire and National Grid are on scene on Old Ferry Road for a single motor vehicle crash into a pole.

METHUEN — A 68-year-old woman was distracted behind the wheel when she crashed into a telephone pole on Old Ferry Road Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police and National Grid workers remained in the area at 1:30 p.m., in order to repair the pole that had snapped leaving wires fallen in the road. Old Ferry Road was closed between Olympic Village Drive and Athens Way during the effort.

The woman was alone in the car and uninjured, police said. She told police that she was trying to turn on her windshield wipers, and had looked down in the moments before the crash.

The roads should be opened and power restored before evening, police said.
