To the editor:
State Representative Diana DiZoglio's, D-Methuen, Democratic opponents are attempting to misrepresent her views and votes and I am writing to set the record straight.
Specifically, I am referring to the recent gun bill that was passed by the Legislature. Her opposition attacked her claiming that she voted against this legislation. That is incorrect.
In reality, Diana has shown enormous leadership on the issue in recent weeks, both fighting hard to protect Second Amendment rights while also advocating for mental health and school safety reforms. She spoke with gun owners, parents and other residents regarding their concerns during each phase of the legislative process. She stood strongly with the Gun Owners' Action League (GOAL) in supporting the final legislation, which strikes a balanced note protecting gun owners' rights in tandem with implementing important safety measures.
House Bill 4376 includes provisions that will assist schools in identifying best practices that will provide safe and supportive school environments. It also includes a number of provisions to ensure law enforcement officials have appropriate public documents relating to applicants' mental health and criminal histories and requires courts to report information regarding domestic violence, substance abuse and mental health.
As her constituent and as a Methuen City Councilor, not to mention a firm Second Amendment supporter myself, I am disappointed by the latest attacks in what has become a desperate campaign to unseat a talented and hardworking legislator.
Please join me in support of the re-election of Diana DiZoglio as state representative for the 14th Essex District.
