To the editor:
My daughter and I have spent the last few years trying to make families aware of the epidemic known as addiction. Knowing that we would need the support of our legislators, we reached out to many of our political office holders. State Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives was one of the few who not only responded, she became an active part in our cause.
Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives became a force on Merrimack Valley Prevention and Substance Abuse Project (M.V.P.A.S.A.P). She was also responsible for bringing the Senate sub-committee that was formed to address prevention, treatment, education and recovery options in the commonwealth, to the city of Methuen. It was at this hearing that many of us were allowed to testify. Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives proposed and endorsed legislation pertaining to the addiction epidemic in the Commonwealth.
One of the many things I like about her the most is that she shows up even if there is not media coverage. Senator Kathleen O’Connor Ives is about getting it done right and not about making headlines.
Being the father of an addict in recovery for almost six years, I know there are many families who are suffering through this epidemic alone and are in need of help. In the short time Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives has worked on this issue and she has taken action and gotten results.
I ask you to join me in supporting Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives, so that she may continue to help us in our fight against the epidemic of addiction.
