To the editor:
The Republican Party used to be known as the Grand Old Party, or GOP. It claimed to stand for balanced budgets, low taxes, free trade and as little government interference in private enterprise as possible. Not anymore. Not since 2017.
Now the Republican Party is the party of President Trump. It believes balanced budgets are for fools, in imposing massive taxes in the form of tariffs, and allowing the president to create winners and losers on a whim.
Every time this president gets a hangnail or bone spur, or thinks someone else is getting more press than he is, he declares a new tariff or doubles a previous one or says he will shut down a border.
He has turned our farmers into welfare kings.
One wonders how businesses can make or execute plans when they are treated like a ball in a pinball game. One wonders why the Republican Party still stands with this president.
Clearly the GOP has gone to P-O-T.
