While a lot of eyes were on Marblehead road racing sensation Shalene Flanage, winner of the New York City Marathon last October, Andover's Rachel Hyland stole the show locally.
Hyland finished fourth overall, as we she among a group of three runners on Boylston Street over the last 250 yards vying for second place behind Desiree Linden, an American from Rochester Hills, Mich. the first American champ in 33 years.
Hyland finished in 2:44:29, nine seconds behind third place finisher Krista Duchene, of Canada, and 29 seconds behind second place finisher Sara Sellers, also an American.
Hyland attended Williams College and her personal best was 2:41:26 at the Chicago Marathon in 2015.
